Steve informed the committee of his decision on Wednesday August 30th and said;
‘It is with a heavy heart and with disappointment that I have decided to resign from my position as Chairman of Lancing Football Club with immediate effect. I have been guardian of our football club for over five years and have thoroughly enjoyed my time working with the committee and helping to run our great club. I’ve enjoyed the challenges with the ups and downs but ultimately I hope I am leaving the club in a healthier position, both financially and in league status. I would like to thank you for giving me the wonderful opportunity to chair Lancing FC, it will forever hold many fond memories for me and will leave a massive hole in my heart. I’m proud of our achievements and I hope there will be more to come.’
Steve joined as Chairman of the Lancers at the beginning of the 2018/19 season and has seen the club progress from strength-to-strength since. Steve’s first role was as Commercial Manager for Lancing FC in the late 90’s, which saw him stay three years before moving onto pastures new. He had a couple of spells as Vice Chairman at Worthing United before going to Southwick as Chairman and then returning to Worthing United as Chairman. After serving four years at the Mavericks Steve took on the vacant Chairman role at Culver Road.
Steve is rightly held in the highest regard throughout football circles in Sussex and beyond and has not only led the club at a time when the highest league position ever was attained but also through the turmoil of COVID, managerial changes and a number of other difficult challenges. He leaves safe in the knowledge that Lancing FC is in a secure position both on and off the pitch and everyone at the club would like to offer Steve their sincere thanks for his dedication and commitment to our cause. He has been a great servant to the club and played a crucial role in the formation of strategies and policies and in taking our club to the next level.
Vice Chairman Barry Sutton will step into the Chairman role in the interim.
