It’s been tough month so far for the Lancers, taking 3 points from 3 games but we look to turn that around in our next home fixture.

Last time out against Phoenix Sports in the reverse fixture back in October, 10 man Lancing were able to win by 2 goals to 1, with goals coming from George Taggart (53′) and Charlie Bennett (57′) and Michael Sarpong (66′) to get the hosts to within 1.

In our last game, Lancing suffered defeat at Sevenoaks Town but with two stunning goals from Andrew Briggs and Lukas Franzen-Jones (which you can see on social media

Lancing and Phoenix Sports have met 6 times in recent years. In 2018 we travelled to Phoenix in the FA Cup First Qualifying Round and came from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 with goals from Matt Daniels and Mike Williamson. The replay saw us lose 3-0 in front of a crowd of 171 but it later transpired that Phoenix had fielded an ineligible player and the Lancers were awarded the tie and progressed to the Second Qualifying Round. Our next encounter was even more eventful. Again it was the FA Cup that drew the two teams together and 2 goals from Ben Connolly and another from Mo Juwara saw the game finish 3-3. An epic 22 man penalty shoot old followed, Lancing losing 11-10 in an encounter few of the 204 in the crowd will ever forget. Highlights of that game can be found here Highlights | Lancing v Phoenix Sports | 01.09.20 (youtube.com)

The 2021/22 season saw us lose twice to Phoenix – 1-0 at home and 2-0 away – in our inaugural season but this wasn’t enough to save Sports who eventually finished one place below us and were relegated. Lancing finally managed to overcome our opponents at the 6th time of asking in October with that 2-1 win and we look forward to another cracking encounter on Saturday.
