This Saturday sees Jamie’s Lancers take on Dover Athletic in our final pre-season friendly before we travel again to South East Kent to take on Deal Town in our opening league match the following week. This will be the first time that the Lancers have met Dover and will be a special match for chairman Barry Sutton who first attended a Dover match in 1982 and was a regular at the Megger Community Stadium at Crabble until his move to Sussex in 1996. He will still occasionally be seen supporting Dover whenever Lancing are without a game! Dover have played at Culver Road before, however, when they played an FA Cup 2nd qualifying round match against Guernsey which you can read about here Guernsey FA Cup campaign ended by 3-2 loss to Dover – BBC Sport

The Lancers continue their tough pre-season campaign and three new signings in Billy Oliver, Stan Berry and Evan Hoarty will all be vying for a place in the squad. Last Saturday saw us lose to Isthmian Premier League outfit Hastings United 4-0, a score which doesn’t reflect the overall balance of play and, indeed, if it wasn’t for the excellence of former Lancer Louis Rogers in goal then the match would have been much closer. A couple of individual errors gave Hastings a first half lead and Jamie will be working hard in training to eradicate them.

Dover – nicknamed the Whites – are also in the Isthmian Premier League this season, having been relegated from the Vanarama National League South last season and come off the back of a 4-2 defeat to Tonbridge Angels. They will be looking to bounce straight back up this year and having made the signings of Mitch Walker, Luca Cocoracchio and Joe Tennent (amongst others) from Whitehawk they appear to be in a good position to do just that and this has been reflected in a strong pre-season which includes a 5-1 home win over Ramsgate.

Kick off on Saturday is 3pm and admission prices are £8 for adults and £6 for concessions. Dover operate a cashless establishment now so only accept bank card payments. Any supporters that do not have access to a bank card can go to reception, where they will take cash. Players and supporters to park at the bottom of the slope, around the rugby pitch as they do not have parking spaces in the club car park. We will provide limited updates on X and don’t forget to keep an eye out for the score between Chipstead and Athletic Newman in the FA Cup as we will face the winners at Culver Road on the 17th August.

Finally a reminder that there is a supporters minibus going to Deal Town on August 10th.
