Ahead of Saturday’s trip to Reading City in the first round proper of the Buildbase FA Vase, we take a look at what was our most successful vase run to date, in the 2010-11 season.
After winning an admirable 6 rounds in the Vase (previously the Carlsberg FA Vase), the Lancers were subject to a postponement in their original fixture away to Holbrook Sports, due to a frozen pitch.
The re-arranged fixture was well-fought, but ultimately a Dave Sharman own-goal and injury time winner saw Holbrook progress into the final 16.
Nevertheless, reaching the final 32 of the Vase was a success in itself, and with the magic of the cup, results are hard to predict in such competitions.
2010/11 Vase Results:
- Lancing 3-2 AFC Uckfield
- Banstead Athletic 2-4 Lancing
- Lancing 1-1 Christchurch
- Christchurch 0-1 Lancing
- Erith & Belvedere 0-2 Lancing
- Lancing 4-2 Witham Town
- Holbrook Sports 2-1 Lancing
Holbrook Sports Match Report
The Derbyshire hosts won through to the last 16 with a 2-1 victory, after Lancers had fought back from a goal down at half-time only to suffer a 93rd-minute defeat in what has been a historic run for the County League Division 2 side.
Lancers were behind at the break after Dave Sharman netted an own goal on 43 minutes, and although Richard Hudson’s 63rd-minute free-kick had levelled the tie, it was Holbrook who secured their place in the fifth round, where they will face Midland Alliance League side Coalville Town
LANCING: Downer; Elliot, Pickford, Sharman; Hudson, Hibberd, McLoughlin, Hayward, Groves; Garnham, Sadough. Subs: MacMillan, Annis, Joseph, Turner, Griffin.
