The Buildbase FA Vase returns to home turf for the first time in the 20/21 campaign on Saturday as the first team host Worthing United at Culver Road in the second round proper tie.
Following 2 bye’s in the early rounds, and our 1-0 October victory away to Reading City, it’s local derby day this weekend in what promises to be an entertaining fixture on the Culver 3G.
The Division One Mavericks, under the management of ex-Lancer Danny Wood, will also be up for the fixture following a replay victory against Edgware Town last week; we look forward to hosting our local neighbours!
Preview courtesy of Base of the Pyramid blog:
“A massive local derby down on the South Coast between two sides who are pretty much close enough for the away to to walk to the ground as their warm-up. Just 3 miles separates the grounds. The home sides best ever run came 10 seasons ago when they made it to the Fourth Round before going out 2-1 at Holbrook Sports. Worthing had their best ever Vase campaign back in their first attempt in 1991-92. They eventually went out in the Third Round 2-1 at home to Northwood. The sides have met before in the competition just last season and it’s one that United will want to forget as they fell to a 7-0 qualifying defeat at Culver Road.”
Rainbow Laces
We have teamed up with Stonewall and The FA to take part in the national Rainbow Laces campaign to show our support, so that together, we can make football everyone’s game.
Everyone is welcome at Lancing Football Club, and we run projects throughout each season to offer visibility, support & education in relation to mental health, LGBTQ+, BAME, religious, disability and inclusivity matters.
Through wearing Rainbow Laces, we show our support of any member that belongs to the LGBTQ+ community, and we improve visibility whilst also supporting Stonewall through the purchase of laces. Our Womens team will also show their support and wear laces on Sunday in their away fixture against Milford & Witley.
Our thanks to Worthing United for agreeing to share in this campaign which will see both teams wear laces.
