The Lancers womens team saw off tough opposition in the form of fellow South East Counties Womens side, AFC Acorns, on Sunday afternoon in the Vitality Womens FA Cup preliminary round tie in Surrey.

It turned out to be an entertaining and well-fought tie 79 between Lancing and Acorns, ending 2-2 after extra-time and 5-4 on penalties to the Lancers.

Two goals from striker Heidi Tucker (12′, 32′) gave the Lancers a 2-0 lead within the first third of the match. However, Acorns attacker Chloe Higham (40′, 50′) levelled the scoreline 5 minutes either side of the half-time break.

Manager Wayne Poulter added: “A great performance all-round for our squad, and a special mention to our keeper Kirsty Jenman for having a great match.”
